THE EXCITEMENT! CAR MAGAZINE | 2012 Street Meet

First of all, thank you to everyone that turned up for our first Excitement! Car Magazine Street Meet! I was very happy with the turn out, and despite the events on the day I hope you guys are looking forward to the next one. As I’m sure most of you know, or can gather, the weather was less than perfect on the day. Terrible in fact. Not to mention a certain Woolworths manager that put in their best efforts to ensure we felt most unwelcome. All things aside, I was very proud with how the meet went and am now scheming how we can do things better next time.

The night before the meet it was suggested to me by Josh Dobrik that I should plan for a wet weather meeting point. It seemed like a good idea considering the torrential downpour that was forecast for the next week. Unfortunately during the middle of a Sunday, there were not many undercover car parks nearby that would comfortably fit 60 odd cars. The closest one being a Woolworth’s just down the road from the original meeting point.

I was pleasantly surprised when I turned up to see the diversity of cars at the meet.

Not to mention the quality of the cars that turned up.

Of course, I was quite happy to see Jayrad had turned up.

As well as Paul. Unfortunately though, he hasn’t quite worked out yet that you don’t change gears the same way that you would kick a soccer ball.

I love seeing the groups of Mira’s that turn up to each meet. If you haven’t seen these things go, you would NOT believe how quick they are!

Of course it wasn’t long before someone came out wildly waving a phone in the air saying that they are calling the police and then moved onto taking photos of cars. I guess that’s what you get for parking a car these days, we should have known better.

Seeing as the rain cleared up to an extent, most of us decided to move along to the original meeting point. It turned out to be a good thing that half the people decided to not come back; as 60 of us huddled under a gazebo was not an appealing way to spend an afternoon. Some of you may recognize this spot from the Streetkarnage Christmas meet.

Mumblezzz. The man and the legend.

Thanks for the chip Michael!

Sam Futcher also brought out his sharp looking Beams Ae86 that we recently did a feature on.

It was good to also meet up with Alex from Streetkarnage on the day too who brought out his bagged VW.
Regardless of the weather, I was so happy to have a day to just hang out and talk crap with mates about cars. I’m very much looking forward to organizing something again soon. Hopefully something in the form of a track meet, but I will let you guys know exactly what once it gets planned.
Thanks again for coming out everyone!
- Grant

Still amazed you hand actually managed to fit in the container, I mean even I was having trouble. Was a great meet guys, keen for the next one, with the major improvement being weather hopefully,
