The Daily Game

It’s funny how those of us who toil with track specific cars still insist on owning fun daily drivers. It’s like a disease that we can’t seem to shake. Despite the many years of owning my Corolla it has always been a must for me to own a daily that can make me grin from ear to ear. Even my last daily; an automatic MX73 Cressida with, get this, working air con had its kicks. Sounds boring right? Wrong. That grin still came from the chassis rails almost kissing the ground at a mere 25mm.
You’re probably wondering by now what the hell I am going on about. Well, for the last few years I have been driving this SR20det S13 which, despite being relatively stock, has always given me the biggest grin of all. You might be surprised to hear that this is the first turbo car I have owned in a long list of silly daily drivers. The time has come however to sell up this fine machine. With commitments coming up this year related to photographic work, uni as well as this magazine the requirement for a much newer car is ever growing.

While this may seem like one of those cliché things that people do when they think it’s time to ‘grow up’, I can assure you that it couldn’t be further from the opposite. I have no doubt I will again buy something that is low, loud and makes those flutter noises that your girlfriend doesn’t quite understand. I couldn’t live with the idea that I would not. The plan is that having a newer and more reliable car during this time that it is needed will leave me with more money saved towards something far greater than this S13 will ever be.
What I thought it might be interesting to discuss is; what do you prefer in a daily driver? Something dead set reliable, or something that is just fun all the time? Or, have you managed to find something in between? For those that are in the same position as me with a fun car that needs to go, what car would be good enough to replace your beloved daily?

was back on the road and I remembered how much fun a “stupid” car is , my daily just sits in the shed.
While my loud, noisy, clunking and hot/cold weekend car gets the tires driven off it.
Makes going to work not a choir, so much so I’m trying to sell my sensible car.
