Streetkarnage Slider Session Pt.1

Sometimes the most amazing things in life are so simple. It amazes me that as people that spend so much time, money and agony on high performance cars we can gain so much fun out of something as basic a tricycle with plastic wheels on the back. If you haven’t seen these things before, you’re in for a treat because huffy sliders are an insane amount of fun.
Oh, and did I mention that A Current Affair doesn’t like them? So you will LOVE them!

The afternoon started off with everyone meeting up at the local Woolies in Reedy Creek. With no one having any real idea where we were heading from there most people had their sliders out for a bit of a play.

Others opted to use their time to fine tune their sliders and do a bit of maintenance. This is serious business, after all.

While we were waiting around I managed to snag Dan Rasell’s slider for a couple of moments to see if I could catch the backwards entry fever.

Pretty much a full pro now.

Of course, with everyone having a slide around the car park it wasn’t too long before the manager of the Woolworths came out waving a phone and threatening to call the police. I’m starting to see a pattern here.

All became well however, because the Streetkarnage organizers had managed to spy out the most perfect area for this type of thing just up the road. The area was a new residential estate that had yet to be populated by houses and had a perfect series of downhill corners.
It was actually very impressive to spot that most people were taking safety quite serious on these things as well.

I wouldn’t go as far to say that these things are dangerous in any way, but like anything that can move at a rate faster than 1 kilometre per hour there is always an opportunity to be hurt. Parents, you’ll be happy to know there were no fatalities this time.

It was only a matter of time before everyone grew confident enough to slide next to each other down the hills. I tell you, seeing 40 of these things fly past you in succession is something you wouldn’t believe until you see it.

As I mentioned earlier, Dan Rasell was out working his magic on the steering lock of his own slider. I have been incredibly impressed with his driving skill throughout 2011. I can’t wait to see him stir up the drift scene this year!

We have a few more parts coming up from this day, but I will leave you for now with this photo I snapped of the Forged Audi that turned up to check out the action. I really would like to shoot this thing sometime soon because it is just amazing. It seems Matyas has beat me to it with some very impressive shots; check it out!
More photos from the rest of the Streetkarnage slider session very soon!
