Jason Murray | So Long Fanta Aids – The New R31

It’s very easy to become attached to certain cars on an emotional level when you spend as much time and effort on them as we all do. However, on rare and often painful occasions there comes a time where a re-shell is needed. For Jason, this has become the reality with his R31. The old Fanta R31, as you would have seen at the QR Matsuri, has had enough money spent on it and the time to upgrade has come.

Of course, the new R31 is not much cleaner but it is much more roadworthy. There is another thing though; sitting right next to the factory RB30 is a nice big RB25 turbo. Which seems like a good enough reason to transfer all the good quality suspension gear from the orange one to the red.

While this has been happening, Jason’s 4agte Ae86 project has been sitting comfortably in the garage. We are beginning to think Jason has too many projects. With that said, it’s not like progress has not been made.

Over the Christmas break, Jason received a nice parcel in the mail which held Origin front guards, front bar and side skirts as well as a Dmax bonnet.

This also included a set of rear bolt on Origin rear guards to help the Work Meister’s sit pretty.

Over the last week or so both Jasons and I have been working on the car when we can in order to transfer everything over.

We swapped the rear suspension over in both cars several days ago and re-drilled the red one so everything mounts up. Being all S13 gear, not everything was as simple as installing a set of coilovers.

It’s not always pretty work.

As I’m writing this though the new R31 currently has new bushes in most suspension joints front and rear, coilovers all round, extended LCA’s and castor rod adjustments. All it’s waiting for now is a new computer and turbo injectors.

There has also been 30mm bolt on spacers slapped on the rear as well as 25mm’s on the front, so we will be back soon to show you guys the final product.
