Bernard Tomic VS Gold Coast Police
I have been watching this whole situation between tennis star Bernard Tomic and the Gold Coast Police over the last two days with great interest.
For those that don’t know what I am on about; Tomic was pulled up yesterday (Australia Day) 3 times in a row in the Broadbeach/Surfers Paradise area while driving his bright orange BMW M3 which as you can see stands out quite well, especially when you have P plates attached to the front and back windows like Tomic has. Before you ask, he has an exemption to drive this car; however it is only while he is driving to and from training. Which he clearly was not doing.
I have to say my first thought is that he’s a complete dumbarse. It just screams moronic that he allowed himself to be pulled up 3 times before realizing that the eastern side of the Gold Coast is not a P-plater friendly place. I offer no sympathy to anyone that gets pulled over and cries victim after driving any form of modified vehicle through Surfers Paradise, myself included.
With that said, I can’t help but feel sorry for the guy to some extent as the whole thing has been blown out of the water entirely. The fact of the matter is that he was driving a car, he wasn’t going fast, he wasn’t skidding, he was simply in a car that he is technically not allowed to drive. Tomic has stated “I don’t know what I’m doing – it’s like I’ve killed somebody.” I think we can all sympathize with that; I’m sure many of you have felt like you were in line for a murder trial when you have been pulled up in your own modified car.
All things aside, I’m not defending Tomic and you are more than welcome to form your own opinion. I have to question however, why on possibly Australia’s busiest day was there so much police and news attention on a man that was simply driving a car?
