Jared Ahearn | Queensland Raceways Short Course Drift Competition | Round Two | April 20 2012

A good friend of mine, Jared Ahearn, turned up to the most recent Queensland Raceway Short Track round with more video gear than any single person should be able to afford and managed to produced this amazing video from the entire event. Somehow managing to mix Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds into the mix is a skill that only few can have, so enjoy the clip!

Hardtuned.net ANZAC Day Bash

Hardtuned.net celebrated Remembrance Day in 2012 by hiring out the Holden Performance Driving Center and holding a private track day. After all, the men and women who we honor on this day fought and died for the freedoms that we have today. With a live DJ spinning out tracks, BBQ sizzling out the back and a large crowd of cars eager to hit the black top in time attack, hot laps and skid pans, the mood was set for fun. The clouds offered a cool day for both drivers and their vehicles, which made the whole thing just that little more comfortable.

Stadium Drift – Round Two

If you have never taken the drive out to Stanthorpe before, the drive alone is an experience in itself. I drove out the night before and braved the bugs on the Cunningham Highway, which sounded like rain on the windshield and caused some trouble with oncoming headlights. All this in the attempt to get a room and not have to get up at 4am to make the drive from Brisbane. Alas this was not to be. I pulled into the first motel I came to out that way, and being a good hearted guy, I held the door open for a British tourist, who snaked the last room in town on me and I had to go back to Warrick for a room. I won’t be doing that again.

Now on to more pressing matters…. Who like skids?

Short Track Round 2

This past Friday, I attended the second round of the short track series, which had to be even bigger than last round. There were a few cars out of action as I turned up due to things breaking and such but the action was still on par. I met even more people this round; I’m starting to get to know a lot of people within the drift scene. I also followed Grant everywhere, like a sidekick, so I used his 5D to get some decent shots of the drifting.

Round 2 – Queensland Raceway Short Track Series | Part 2

Here’s my final photos from Round 2 of the Queensland Raceway Short Track series that was held on Friday night. One of the understated cars of the night was Simon Mercers LS powered S13 which is still being dialed in but had no problem pouring out the smoke for the crowds.

Queensland Raceway Short Track Series | Round 2 | Part 1

It’s been incredibly refreshing shooting the last couple of rounds of the Queensland Raceway Short Track Series, and I am already pumped to shoot the next one. There has been some amazing action across both rounds so far that has seen plenty of drivers really push their cars past the limits, which is really what we want to see!

TEASER | Mercury Motorsport Dyno Day

This past weekend Turbosmart held a dyno day at Mercury Motorsport featuring plenty of amazing cars and two girls who were kind enough to clean the cars in their Bikinis! Earlier I had been asked by Adam of 7tune to shoot the event so I borrowed a D3100 to have better low light performance, as opposed to my SX30, and then took my best shot at taking photos. There was plenty of rain during the day, but that didn’t stop the determination of drivers with quite a few cars making it into the higher ranges of power. The highlight for me had to be the 3SGE Cortina with ITBs, had an amazing sound which also left a funny feeling in your ears but also a huge smile across your face. It was the first time I had visited Mercury Motorsport and what a day it was! I met plenty of new faces that I had only previously talked to through Facebook.

Those Damn Walls!

Nick Coulson was absolutely ripping it up last night at Round 2 of the Queensland Raceway Short Track Series driving with no reserve what so ever. Unfortunately close to the end of the night his car met the wall, effectively ending its ability to drive for the night. That didn’t stop Nick though as he quickly got back out on track with his S15 daily driver.

I’m very excited to see him get the car all fixed up and back out on track as soon as he can!

Josh Dobrik’s MX5

For us photographers, sometimes taking photos of the sport we love just is not enough. Much like our contributor Josh Dobrik, more often then not we can’t wait to get out there and give it a go ourselves. Josh took took it to the Pan recently to learn to drift in his own Mazda MX-5. The skidpan being one of the best places to learn the art form that is drifting; No Police, no traffic and best of all no tire usage!

Interview on Torque Radio Oz

I was very privileged earlier this week to be a guest on Torque Radio for a segment called Drift Torque. Simon Mercer and Dan Rasell are the hosts of the show and during the segment they interview drifters both Nationally and Internationally. The whole experience was unreal as I had never been on any form of radio before, but it was great to talk all things past, present and future to do with my drifting life and Excitement! Car Magazine.

Hammer Time

Now that I no longer have a daily driver that requires the same amount of attention as a new born child, I have found myself a hell of a lot more time to spend the car I want to work on. The Corolla has been in dire need of attention lately, particularly on the panel damage that I caused early last year.

This week I have been getting quite stuck into it, and as you can see there is still a fair way to go. Panel beating and painting of cars has never been my strong point, but it’s definitely not my first time doing it. I’m slowly going through the process of hammering out as many dents as I can before the large amounts of bog that previous graced this car are replaced.

I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated how it is looking.

Short Track series @ QR!

Last week at Queensland Raceway, a drifting comp was held on the short track; Round 1 of the Queensland Raceway Short Track series. There was a huge turnout with loads of people turning up to watch 16 cars battle it out with 5 more doing trains in between during the down time which were great to watch. The night was good, despite turning up an hour late there was still lots of action to see and plenty of people to meet, two of which being Grant and Josh who I finally met for the first time.
